Carelessness

“Careless words can make a fool out of us, so we are wise to think before we speak…Many proverbs praise people who speak carefully and truthfully. Speech reflects a person’s character. The words of a righteous person soothe the listener.” (Foundation Study Bible, Proverbs 12:18-19, 12:16)

“The tongues of the wise heal others, because they possess the general virtues of Wisdom. But the tongues of the unwise are like swords that wound as they speak.” (Orthodox Study Bible, Proverbs 12:20)

“What you say and what you don’t say are both important….We dare not be careless with what we say, thinking it can be apologize later, because even if we do, the scars remain. A few words spoken in anger can destroy a relationship that took years to build. Before you speak, remember that words are like fire – you can neither control nor reverse the damage they do.” (Life Application Study Bible, James 3:2,3,6)

“If you are a believer, you are a minister for God. In the course of each day, unbelievers observe you. Don’t let your careless or undisciplined actions be another person’s excuse for rejecting Christ.” (Life Application Study Bible, 2 Corinthians 6:3)

“Everything we say and do has impact to ourselves and others. We should be careful about the words that come out of our mouth and the actions we take. Too often we are careless in thought and deed because we are not mindful. The path to mindfulness is prayer. The more prayerful we are the more we draw closer to God and the image of Him in us continually grows in His likeness. This naturally leads us to a gentler deliberation when it comes to our thoughts, words, and actions.” (Sacramental Living Blog)
