Faith (as an Adventure)

“…an open-ended obedience to God’s call constitutes the nature of true faith. First, we obey. Only afterward do we grasp what God intended all along. Faith is stepping forth into the unknown so that we may learn to experience directly the mind of God. Genuine faith…consists in trusting God over the course of many years of seeming contradictions. True faith waits on God for the outcomes that He promises… To have faith means acting obediently, with open-ended trust in God, never fully knowing how it will all work out. Faith holds an element of adventure.” (Dynamis 3/16/2018)

“Our life journeys also have strange and unforeseen twists and turns in them. Many times God asks us to take a detour, and sometimes another detour on that. Many times we have to really dig deep and trust in God, for sometimes what He asks of us is daunting. Some of life’s journeys can be downright scary.” (Fr. Stavros N. Akrotirianakis)

“One of the marks of real Christian faith, then, is a sense that there is some kind of power outside of you putting its finger on you, coming to you, and dealing with you.” (Pastor Timothy Keller)

“A heart that’s properly prepared for worship doesn’t simply endure the journey...It prepares itself for a marvelous adventure in the presence of the God of the universe, and it expects and works toward a deeper relationship with the Creator.” (NIV Men's Devotional Bible)

“To fall in love with God is the greatest of romance; to seek Him the greatest adventure; to find Him, the greatest human achievement.” (St. Augustine)
