Prayer and Decision-Making

“The Gospel writers note that before every important event in Jesus’ life, He would take time to go off by Himself and pray...Make sure that all your important decisions are grounded in prayer.” (Life Application Study Bible, Luke 6:12)

“When you face a difficult task, an important decision, or a baffling dilemma, don’t rush into the work and just hope it comes out the way it should. Instead, make your first step prayer for the Holy Spirit’s power and guidance.” (Life Application Study Bible, Acts 1:12-13)

“…complex issues require prayer and discernment that is anything but simple and requires us to extend ourselves in our thoughts and heart to make a good decision that we may or may not have peace about.” (Sacramental Living)

“We often pray for God’s guidance as we struggle with decisions. What we need is both guidance and a guide—a map that gives us landmarks and directions and a constant companion who has an intimate knowledge of the way and will make sure we interpret the map correctly. The Bible is such a map, and the Holy Spirit is our constant companion and guide. As you make your way through life, use both the map and your Guide…We can be secure in His [God’s] love and trust Him to guide our decisions.” (Life Application Study Bible, Psalm 48:14, Joel 3:17)

“Neither are the real-world events of our lives—whether mundane or momentous—by mere chance. We can be confident that God has some good purpose in mind as a result of the decisions that we make (or that are made for us) and the actions that we take. For"we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).” (Joseph O'Day)
