Love (Knowing how you love God)

“There is only one true proof of wholehearted love of God – if you strive to exercise care by laboring solicitously on behalf of your brothers.” (St. Bede)

“When God wanted to offer proof of himself to the people of the ancient world, He called upon Israel, his chosen nation, to give witness of His existence. “People of Israel, you are my witnesses; I chose you to be my servant, so that you would know me and believe in me and understand that I am the only God. Besides me there is no other God; there never was and never will be.” (Is. 43:10). One of the responsibilities of the people of God, therefore, was to serve as mediators of the Lord, and as living proof of the undeniable existence of the Almighty. This is as true today as it was then. The transfigured life of God’s people still offers the most basic and convincing proof of God. A changed soul is still the best testimony of God’s power to work within us. Love which is reflected in a Christian heart that finds it possible to accept, forgive, and love others unconditionally remains the best witness of the nature of God.” (Rev. Andrew Demostes)

“It is impossible to love God if one has bad feelings towards even a single individual. Understandably so. Love and hostility cannot exist in the same soul...” (Abbot Nikon Vorobiev)

“Love for God is demonstrated by love for man (1 John 4:20)…If you love God, you will treat others well….We cannot truly love God while neglecting to love those who are created in His image.” (Foundation Study Bible, Matthew 25:32-40, Deuteronomy 15:7-15, Life Application Study Bible, 1 John 4:20-21)

“Love is the essence of the relationship between God the Son and God the Father, and it remains our test of authentic life in the Church in every age…We know that there can be no life without love. This means that there is no life without God, for God is Love…He who loves, ought so to love, that if he were asked even for his soul, and it were possible, he would not withhold it.” (Dynamis 12/13/2019, Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica, St. John Chrysostom)
