Seeing and Believing

“...while not all seeing is believing, believing is still a form of “seeing.” Or putting the matter somewhat differently, one truly “sees” when one believes. When one believes, then the scales fall from one’s eyes and one “sees” into the deeper reality of things.” (Vigen Guroian)

“Come and see” (John 1:39). No answers. No philosophy. No high-minded, esoteric concepts. He only offers the path of following Him in trust and hope. When we are with Him, we’ll know not only Him, but ourselves as well. I will find my life’s purpose, peace, and strength when I follow Him who is Life Himself.” (Father Barnabas Powell)

“Knowledge is not entirely a choice, nor is seeing something to be turned off and on at will. Communion unites us to that which we see. It becomes part of us and we inescapably bear it within us.” (Father Stephen Freeman)

“We may find other ways to avoid the Lord’s claim on us – for example, establishing conditions for our submission to Christ as God. “Unless I see . . . and put my hand into His side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). Such assertions are fueled by our self-assurance and pride. To demand objective, verifiable evidence seems entirely reasonable at first blush, but it exposes our reliance on mere human “wisdom.” The world is filled with people who use their own wisdom to brush aside the Lord’s demand on our lives.” (OCPM 4/24/2017)

“Blinded by the glaucoma of our self-importance, we no longer see the Cross’s relevance or significance.” (Calvin Miller)
