Envy

"It is sometimes tempting to observe other peoples’ lives and journeys, especially of our peers, and compare our own life with theirs. We also might wistfully observe the lives of celebrities, and feel somehow insufficient or less fortunate. But today I’ll remember what Christ said to Peter, and hear Him say it to me: What is that to you? You follow Me." (Sr. Dr. Vassa Larin)

“In each of us the energy of the Spirit is made manifest according to the measure of his faith (cf. Romans 12:6). Therefore each of us is the steward of his own grace and, if we think logically, we should never envy another person the enjoyment of his gifts, since the disposition which makes us capable of receiving divine blessings depends on ourselves.” (St. Maximos the Confessor)

“Envy is the reverse side of a coin called vanity. Nobody is ever envious of others who is not first proud of himself…We envy the success of others, when we should emulate the process by which that success came." (John Stott , William George Jordan)

“Everyone needs a certain amount of approval from others. But those who go out of their way to secure honors or to win popularity become conceited and show they are not following the Holy Spirit’s leading. Those who look to God for approval won’t need to envy others.” (Life Application Study Bible, Galatians 5:26)

“God knows very well what happens to people when they are caught up in envy. What God really intends for us is that we would be content with who we are and what we have. Content with Him." (Ron Mehl)
