March 25 Significance

“…March 25, which is traditionally considered in Christendom to be the date of the first Good Friday, the Fall of Adam and Eve, and also the Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel visited Mary to announce the conception of Christ (see Luke 1:26-38).” (Echoes of Truth)

“..the teaching about Adam and Golgotha, the place of the Crucifixion is very useful. In our Christian Tradition, we say that the Cross of Christ stood directly over Adam’s grave. So, Golgotha, Adam’s grave, this place of death, because of Christ and the Cross, became and is a place of life.” (Sacramental Living Ministries)

“Mary also shows us that she did not live a life of blind and unreasoning faith. By asking Gabriel questions and then accepting God’s will and choosing to do it, she sets an example for us of a faith that engages the whole person including the mind.” (Father Stanley Harakas)

“Mary consideration of what Gabriel was telling her and her eventual acceptance of it as truth is the greatest Biblical example of the union of faith and human reason…You and I have been trained by our culture to not believe in the supernatural. As we saw earlier, as a Jewish woman, Mary had been trained by her culture to not believe that God could ever become a human being. So, though they are different, the barriers she faced against belief…were every bit as big as the barriers you may be facing.” (Sacramental Living Ministries, Pastor Timothy Keller)

“Even though she was only a teenager, Mary’s intimate relationship with God prompted her to answer, “Yes,” despite the short-term suffering and shame her pregnancy would bring. We must strive to make moral choices in the same faithful way by our own close relationship with God.” (Abouna Justin Rose)
