Skepticism

“Today, our Christian faith is under attack. Jesus’ life, his miracles, and above all his resurrection, are being challenged by liberal skeptics. Don't let any of these empty criticisms about the Christian faith deter you in your perseverance. These attacks are unfounded and empty. The Christian faith is precisely that—a faith. It is not based exclusively on the static historicity of an abstract figure, but in the living relationship with the living God. In order to be understood, the Christian faith must be lived and experienced relationally. Each one of us needs to know in whom we have believed.” (Theo Nicolakis)

“Religion as a historical and psychological phenomenon is one of the many common elements in the life of humankind. Despite color or creed, people have common characteristics that indicate that they are of a common origin. The declaration that God has "made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth...that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him" (Acts 17:26-27) may not satisfy a skeptic or an agnostic who does not believe in the authority of the Scriptures. But there are nonscriptural affirmations to be found in the natural and psychological sciences.” (Father Demetrios J. Constantelos)

“One who claims to be a skeptic of one set of beliefs is actually a true believer in another set of beliefs.” (Phillip Johnson)

“A culture of skepticism is a culture of questions, and questions can lead to conversations, relationships, and truth." (David Kinnaman)

“I’ve always appreciated skeptics’ arguments and the invaluable role they play in defining and clarifying what is unique about Christianity. It bothers me when Christians dismiss these questions glibly or condescendingly. Taking the time and effort to answer hard questions gives believers the opportunity to deepen their own faith while creating the possibility that doubtful people may become open to the joy of Christianity.” (Pastor Timothy Keller)
