Gift Giving

"The giving of gifts is a natural response to Jesus’ stupendous act of self-giving, when He laid aside his glory and was born into the human race.” (Pastor Timothy Keller)

“God is the ultimate benevolent and joyful gift giver. He gives us the gift of life, the gift of joy, the gift of peace, the gift of others, the gift of Himself in Christ.” (Sacramental Living Podcast)

“The wise men traveled thousands of miles to see the king of the Jews. When they finally found Him, they responded with joy, worship, and gifts. This is so different from the approach people often take today. We expect God to come looking for us, to explain Himself, prove who He is, and give us gifts. But those who are wise still seek and worship Jesus today, not for what they can get, but for who He is.” (Life Application Study Bible, Matthew 2:1-2)

“…gift giving in a spirit of love, not in excess, not with a desire to be praised, but simply to bring joy to another reflects God. The wise men brought gifts to Christ. Gift giving has an element of sacredness to it when we do it with the right spirit.” (Sacramental Living Podcast)

“…any gift-giving during the season should be in the spirit of God’s never-ending philanthropy. Anything we ‘give’ was first given to us from God. Therefore, we are simply re-gifting the blessings we’ve received! Like the Magi, we are also to offer gifts to the Savior in ways particular to our capabilities—remembering the family member, the friend, the stranger, and—especially—the least of our brethren through loving gestures of prayer, goodwill, and material generosity.” (GOARCH Center for Family Care)
