Stumbling

“A live body is not one that never gets hurt, but one that can to some extent repair itself. In the same way a Christian is not a man who never goes wrong, but a man who is enabled to repent and pick himself up and begin over again after each stumble—because the Christ-life is inside him, repairing him all the time, enabling him to repeat (in some degree) the kind of voluntary death which Christ Himself carried out.” (C.S. Lewis)

“We will face trials and tribulations in this life, but we need not be overwhelmed by them. Even Jesus stumbled and fell carrying His Cross.” (Fr. Joseph Irvin)

“We make the decision as to whether the events of our life will serve as stepping stones or stumbling blocks.” (Maxie Dunnam)

“Some people still stumble over Christ because salvation by faith doesn’t make sense to them. They would rather try to earn their way to God...Others stumble over Christ because His values are the opposite of the world’s. He asks for humility, and many are unwilling to humble themselves before Him. He requires obedience, and many refuse to put their wills at His disposal.” (Life Application Study, Romans 9:32)

“It is a sobering thought for us, to remember that often our sins do not affect only ourselves, they also cause others to stumble and fall.” (Foundation Study Bible, Joshua 7:25)
